Many people contact me eager to start training for a triathlon race, but often have doubts whether it is the right time to do it. This is an understandable question, because we all want to maximize our chances of success.
However, the answer may surprise you: the right time to start training for a triathlon race is now (actually I should tell you that the right time was the past month ;).
Seriously, this seemingly simple answer contains a fundamental concept: the sooner you start, the better!
We often find excuses or wait for the “ideal moment” that doesn’t really exist.
We think it’s better to wait after the holidays, when we’re a little more relaxed with work, or when it gets a little less hot… but these are just suggestions that we create ourselves to justify our uncertainty and postpone the commitment.
Procrastination is one of the main enemies that we face every day, not just in sport but in general in life.
Facing and defeating this “invisible enemy” will take us a big step forward.
The truth is that the right time will never come.
Every day you spend without training, even for a few minutes a day, represents a delay in achieving your goals and dreams in the world of triathlon.
So why wait? Tackle this little block now and start preparing for your first (or your next) triathlon race.
One of the most common concerns is the time available.
It is understandable that many of us have family, work and social commitments that can make it difficult to find time to train.
However, it is important to understand that everyone has little time.
Although it’s a common challenge, it’s important to know that with just a few hours a week, you can train well and achieve significant results.
The key is to organize and plan your time effectively.
By balancing your training time and tasks, you will find that you have more time to train than you ever imagined.
Another frequent concern is related to climatic conditions, especially the summer heat. However, it is important to remember that heat is not an insurmountable obstacle.
You can prepare for a triathlon race (and even for a full IronMan) totally in a climate-controlled environment.
You have the option to swim in an indoor pool, use a smart trainer instead of pedaling on the street, and run on a treadmill instead of outside.
Do not allow the heat to stop you, because there are always alternatives to continue to train effectively.
In truth, I’ll explain more: In certain circumstances, even if you have the opportunity to exercise outdoors, it’s more efficient to use the Smart Trainer or the treadmill.
These tools enable you to perform short but intense workouts with greater accuracy in the data received.
And what about the holidays?
Even if you’re on vacation, and maybe you don’t have a bike with you or a pool nearby, there are always plenty of ways to stay active and train without compromising your leisure time.
Take advantage of your free time to take a swim in the sea, take a run on the beach or explore new running routes or even take a nice walk in the mountains.
No matter how small your activity is, every movement counts and helps you stay fit.
So remember: There is no perfect time to start training for a triathlon race.
The best time is now, regardless of the circumstances surrounding you.
Don’t wait for it!
Every day behind is one more day that sets you apart from your goals.
